Gods of the Gens Iunia
There are two sets of patron deities for the gens Iunia: in the first set are the patron deities that the
ancient gens worshipped as their clan and family patrons, the second set are those whom the
Senior Paterfamilias of the modern gens acknowledges to be his own Patrons. The former are Gods of the entire gens, the latter really only of the Iunii Palladii, though there is nothing preventing any new families or members of the gens from adopting Them as their own. You will notice that the deities of the modern gens Iunia bear Their Greek names first. This is how They have been known to the Senior Paterfamilias. It was not at all unusual in ancient Rome for the Greek names to be used as frequently as the Latin since some Gods and Goddesses were so closely associated with Their Greek counterparts and Greek was widely known and spoken in Rome. Apollo, however, had no Latin name and was known simply as Apollo by both the Greeks and Romans. Apollo was one of the primary patron deities of Caesar Augustus, Octavian.
The gens Iunia and the Religio Romana
The gens Iunia, as you might have gathered, takes a reverent attitude to the Religio Romana. As such we require a high degree of respect for the state religion. Our gentiles (clansmen) take an oath similar to that of the magistrates of Nova Roma. To read the Nova Roma oath of the
magistrates, click here. To join the gens Iunia, or if you have questions or comments, e-mail the
Senior Paterfamilias.
