Abstract:

This coverage contains four different sets of information. The first is the responsible ranger district. There are four of these, they are Hood Canal, Quilcene, Quinault, and Soleduck. The second dataset is the Critical Habitat Units. This shows areas which have been deemed essential for the conservation of a species. The third dataset shows the adaptive management area codes. The fourth dataset shows the forest plan codes.

Purpose:

This dataset was built to show the administrative regions within the ONF.

Supplemental_Information:

This coverage was built using the UTM grid system. The geographic coordinates which appear later in this report were produced using the project command in ArcInfo version 7.1.2. Both the input and output projections are based on the Clarke 1866 spheroid and the North American Datum of 1927 (NAD27). The bounding coordinates in the original UTM grid are as follows: West Bounding Coordinate: 399174 East Bounding Coordinate: 508847 South Bounding Coordinate: 5238453 North Bounding Coordinate: 5335338

REGION ADMIN.PATCHU: Under the Endangered Species Act, Critical Habitat is defined as "the specific areas within the geographic area occupied by a species...on which are found those physical and biological features essential to the conservation of the species, and that may require special management considerations or protection; and specific areas outside the geographic area occupied by a species at the time it is listed, upon determination that such areas are essential for the conservation of the species." In this environmental impact statement "Critical Habitat Unit" is interchangeable with "Critical Habitat" and may refer to a specific piece of Critical Habitat. The CHU layer reflects data as of it's publication in the Federal Register, January 15, 1992. It is the final version to the CHA map, published in the May 5, 1991 Federal Register. Region ADMIN.PATFPLAN94: Data was transcribed to USGS 7 1/2 & 15 minute Quads by Kelly Coon. Kelly was involved in the process completely through each phase of digitizing and attributing to insure accuracy of the data and it's content. USGS Quadrangles used as a base were compiled from aerial photos taken in 1977 & 1978, and field checked in 1979. Modifications to USGS base map made from 1980 & 1981 aerial photos, 1980 ortho photography & 1984 correction guides. Input scale was 1:24000, digitizing system was LIDES.
