Behind-the-Scenes POINTS OF INTEREST - musical and otherwise: [Being I was there, with some stunning individuals, I should add, I'll give a little insight that I normally wouldn't have, being a normal faceless pod person sittin' in front of the tellyvision set.] ~ As previously reported, the original version of ACT 1 ran between 25-30 minutes, or so it felt, and it was much more amusing than the edited product (not that that lacks all laughs, or anything). ~ As also previously reported, there was a scheduled segment of "Will It Float?" that didn't happen on this show. It was to include [POSSIBLE SPOILER COMING] either bananas and/or cool whip. [POSSIBLE SPOILER ENDING] *** ~ Paul and Andrew Gold had a clash of words during a portion of "Barbara Ann" that took place during the commercial break, and cracked up a little bit, while continuing all the while. Paul, the musical genius he is, looped the song back to a part that ran a little smoother, just as the show resumed and came out of commercial. Amusing stuff, as well. ~ I saw Will and Sid talking about "Smoke on the Water" during the Mule Deer set...Will was a step off or so on the opening (as you may've noticed listening), so they got the key straightened out during the set, and it was fine for the play-out. ~ I can't find the piece of paper now, but while at the Ed, I came across a piece of paper that had the ACT 6 banter written out, pretty much verbatim -- the question from Dave, and the ["witty"] response from Gary. I found that very interesting...just gotta wonder how often that's the case. (Probably very.) VITAL QUOTE of the night: ~ "You remember those three categories we talked about earlier?" - loved it (it's been explained I think). [There'd probably be more if I weren't too lazy to go back through it.] HERE I was going to include a spoiler-heavy section on interesting things from the script (for our friends who weren't there and haven't taken a look at it)...but I've chosen not to, just cuz I don't wanna be "that guy". I'll just limit it to saying that I found it interesting that the rehearsal script said, under the "Props/Graphics" category, regarding "Will It Float?": {PAUL PLAY / CHYRON ... ALAN TELL WHAT THE ITEM IS ... (BANANAS OR COOL WHIP ... DAVE AND PAUL TALK ... CHYRON/SFX:DING ... SCRIM RISE - MODELS - ... ANDREA & NADINE ... CUE/DRUMROLL ... FANFARE OR WAH WAH CHYRON IT ... FLOATS OR "IT SINKS" [sic] ... "And that's how we play will it floats" [sic]} I realize that that was long and pointless, but the part I found interesting was that they seemingly don't just test-drive the segment to find out whether the item will float or not, hence the inclusion of both options in the script. It could just be me. I also realize I just rendered my earlier spoiler warning useless, by repeating the previously prefaced content in caps just above. (The footnote, too, is kinda pointless now...I was going to list the five unused Mailbag letters' titles and some video clips that were on deck for the Thursday show, and link that to said footnote, so it would've made more sense. Most people would just delete this crap.) Sorry. You'll learn to love again, I promise. THOUGHT PROVOKING QUESTION of the day: 1) From the year you were born, to the present, what year do you think produced the best music? 2) What do you think was/is the best year of/for music, overall, ever? (This two may render the same answer, but I thought I'd pose it differently, because I'm sure my answers would be different.) I assume I should have an answer to this question, although I don't really have a well-formed one. I've always been partial to disco, so I'd have to go with 1977 (which was part of my former online moniker), although I chose that year initially simply because it was the release year of the best movie ever, "Saturday Night Fever" (hush). That answer obviously, though, falls under "2)" for me. My answer for "1)" would be somewhere in the 90s...probably 1994 or 1995. That was around the time I used to watch (and, sadly, record) MTV near what seemed to be 24 hours a day, minus the time I was getting learnt at school...damn, that music was good! Damn, I wish I was your lover! (No, I'm not a Sophie B. Hawkins fan, or anything..I just couldn't resist...it was just for me.) Um, your turn. I'd give my opinion of the show, but I'm sure it's pretty obvious. Plus, I gotta save something for the trip report; 'seems the more I write, the less I got for the report. Nonetheless, I promise the trip report won't be as long and painstaking as this post (well, it won't be both, anyway). ==== Micah *** I included this information in an effort to see whether the writers would be motivated to write new material, or if they'd just use this stuff anyway. Of course, there's always the probable factor that they don't read this. Also a contender is the possibility that they don't care. Either way, it'll be fun to look for it in the future. [;-)]
