Subject: DaveCon 2003 Trip Report Part 1 From: bostonbill41@webtv.net (bostonbill41) Date: Sun, 22 Jun 2003 00:43:41 -0400 (EDT) Newsgroups: alt.fan.letterman Here now, my first Dave Con Trip Report. Took the Amtrak down to NYC on Sunday and stayed in Brooklyn with some relatives (I think we all know how painful that can be) to save some cash. Monday turned out to be a beautiful day with no rain. Took the subway to 34th St and walked up Broadway. Just something about seeing the marquee from the Ed come into view. Got to the Manhattan Chilli Company around noon and went upstairs to see Bill Lehecka and NE Ohio Bob already there. Stayed with the Diet Coke (instead of beer) for the pre- show gathering. Mmmmmm nothing goes with the Diet Coke like two chilli dogs. Traci arrived and brought some really cool LS2K Buttons and some candy and lips from another hottt afl'er, Shirlee also hottt( a trend) gave us some lovely pizzelles, mighty tasty. Donz arrived and gave us a new CD, well at least I think it's new. Down to the Ed to get our tickets and hear the first of three pre-show speech's. After the speech, went out to 53rd to stalk staffers. Stood in front of the Hello Deli with some other afl'ers and talked to Rupert Then came "the moment ", it was her, The Face That Lights Up A Deli Owner( aka Marilyn). Rupert was just giddy. If Paul and the band were there, they would have played the model theme. Back to the Ed and into the lobby "the pep talk" was pretty good. The woman who gave it was pleasant and perky. Finally around 5pm the doors open and you get the rush of cool air from the theater. Not bad seats off to the left of the center section/ Lehecka on my left and Ann on my right three rows up. Usuall warm- up Dave at Taco Bell, Eddie, CBS Orchestra without Sid, Basket Case, Paul intro, Dance to the Music. Dave sprints out on stage and swings the mic so it's hitting the camera in front of him. A proud moment for all of afl as Micah was picked by Dave. Dave used the line in the opening monologue and it got a good response. Things not seen on tape: The lovely Laurie Diamond dancing to the cross-over tune 42nd Street..Sen Clinton doing her toe-tapping-chair-dance while the CBSO played Smooth by Santana. Sen. Clinton getting a hand kiss from Dave before she left the stage. The show ended and we stayed seated until Tony said it was OK to go on stage. Was really quite a thrill to sit at Dave's desk . The set is beautiful. The work that went into it is much more appreciated seeing the detail that went into each piece. Walked through backstage and the green room which I thought was really small. Downstairs to the control room. The Ed has so much history to it. When we left, the stage was totally black, an odd feeling. It really was a thrill to be on the stage of a show you watch almost every night. Thats it for part 1. Maybe I'll do part 2 after the restraining orders are lifted. Bill
