Dave Tree Pictures, Page 7
2004 - 2005

Two dead trunks.
Sorry for being such a slacker on tree updates. Last year I was dealing with a major medical issue, and this year I've been too darn busy to deal with taking pictures and measurements. Anyway, the tree is hanging in there.
After the winter of 2002 - 2003, the Dave Tree regrew from the root up, everything above ground having died off from the cold. Same thing happened the following winter ('03 - '04).

Wait, it's alive afterall.

Last summer, 2004, the third incarnation of the Dave Tree grew from the root up. I don't have any record of the tree's height from late 2003 or any time in 2004, but my recollection is that by fall of 2004 it was about the same height that it was at the end of the 2003 season, maybe slightly taller.

Somehow the part of the tree above ground managed to survive the winter of 2004 - 05, and come spring the Dave Tree sprouted new growth from the surviving trunk (i.e., the third trunk, the one that grew during the summer of 2004). There also seems to be yet another new trunk with leaves growing down inside the greenhouse tube.
The tree now stands 64 inches tall, which looks to be about the same as it was a year ago, judging by the pictures with me standing next to it. So basically it's not getting taller, though you can see it has filled out a bit. The whole thing is tilting rather drastically to one side, despite the supporting tube. The tube, by the way, was only supposed to be on there for the first year or two, but after four years in Vermont, the tree still isn't tall enough to stand on its own. It's definitely not happy in this climate.
