< BACK The Front Suspension NEXT >

Here's the right side front suspension as it goes together. The lower control arm is new. The upper control arm is an original with a new ball joint. The spring seat is original, though its bushing has been replaced. The trick is to insert the new bushing at the right angle.

I sandblasted and painted the coil springs. I also put the paint marks (gray & brown) back on in the same locations that Ford had put them. Every restored car I've seen had these markings always facing straight out, but I decided to put them where they were.

Here it is all assembled and ready for a wheel. The original brake drum was in excellent condition. I sandblasted it, painted it with castblast and installed new bearings. Even the dust cap is new. New Ford dust caps arw still availible.

Once the right side was fully assembled and the wheel was bolted on, I assembled the left side.

I took this picture after I bolted on the brake assembly.

And here it is back on all four wheels. This is the first time in over two years. This is not what the tires will be. I am going to put on new white walls and the original hubcaps so that it looks like it did when Ford built it. Since the hupcaps don't cover the entire wheel its important to have new lugnuts and a new dust cap, since they will show.

This is the back side of the left front suspension. Most of the hardware is new, including the correct red-dyed nuts on the backing plate.

This is the right side. The strut rod outer bushing is missing when I took this picture. The supplier that I got it from shorted me one and I had to wait for them to send me a new one.
