On the water, moonlight glimmers,
As it leaps down the course of a mountain stream.
Nighttime, just past twilight, settles in the forest
And the nocturnal animals cease their strange dreams.
While other woodland creatures settle down,
To find their place of rest,
These denizens of the darkness,
Are rising from their nests.
Yes, as the rest of the forest mellows out,
To begin their nightly sleep,
The skunks, and bats, and owls all
Hope for a bountiful feast.
